How do we reserve our date?
A $500 refundable security deposit and a signed contract lock in your date. We then set up equal monthly payments, with your final payment due 30 days before your wedding.
Are there discounts for Friday, Sunday or weekday weddings?
Yes. All-Inclusive packages receive a 10% discount on Fridays and Sundays and a 15% discount Monday through Thursday.
Payments & Policies
How can we pay?
Payments can be made by cash, check or PayPal. Online payments are subject to a service fee from the bank or credit card company.
When is the final guest count due, and what happens if it changes?
Your final head count is due 30 days before the event. The final payment is adjusted for the head count, any catering changes, and add-ons. Extra guests are $75 each on the All-Inclusive package (boutique contracts are $55); fewer guests are deducted at the per-guest rate.
How are children counted and priced?
Children count toward your guest total until you give us your final count, then your invoice is adjusted. Children ages 3 to 12 are served a kids' meal for $25 each, and you receive credit for the difference between the adult catering price and the kids' meal price. Children 2 and under are free, and you receive credit for the full adult portion.
How does the security deposit work?
The $500 deposit is in addition to your rental fee and is returned by mailed check 30 days after your event, once the property has been inspected. It may be paid by personal check or cash.
What can cause us to lose the security deposit?
- Smoking or vaping in any building or within 20 feet of a doorway
- Staying more than 15 minutes past your rental time
- Damage to landscaping or grounds
- Excessive cleaning, including body fluids
- Cleaning up after vendors (leftover food, kitchen cleaning)
- Unsupervised children, or children under 12 upstairs who aren’t in the wedding party
- Bringing in your own alcohol to serve to guests at the reception
- Aggressive or threatening behavior toward staff or other guests
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Deposits and rental fees are not refunded for cancellations. If you reschedule at least 180 days before your original date, we will gladly move your event to a date within one year of the original; a rebooking fee set by the venue manager may apply.
Do we need event insurance?
Yes. Event insurance naming The Finch House with $1,000,000 of liability coverage must be submitted 30 days before your event.
Ceremony, Tables & Layout
What are the dimensions of the ceremony arbor?
The ceremony arbor is 120 inches wide and 93 inches tall overall. The opening beneath it is 67 inches wide and 84 inches tall. You can download a dimensioned drawing of the arbor.
Can the arbor be draped, and what does it cost?
You may bring in décor, including florals and fabric, to decorate the arbor, or we can drape it for you for $150.
How big are your tables?
- Round guest tables: 48 inches, with 108-inch round linens
- Sweetheart table: 30 x 60 inch rectangle
- Cake table: 48-inch round
How many guests fit in the Library, and what is the tent capacity?
The Library seats 48 guests at tables or 60 for a ceremony. The tent holds 175.
In what order are tables released and numbered for the buffet?
Family tables are released first, typically the four tables closest to the sweetheart table.
What if it rains?
If rain is possible, the ceremony is set up under the tent with a portable arbor, or inside the Library. The venue manager makes the call by 10 a.m. on the wedding day based on the forecast, and the team can add tents over the outside walkways and close tent sides as needed.
What if it’s cold?
We close the sides of the tent and have propane and forced air heat available, keeping the interior of the tent warm even when it’s cold outside.
What if it’s hot?
The Finch House has air conditioning. The tent is cooled through numerous large fans and keeping the sides completely open.
Is there a dance floor?
The Finch House can provide a black-and-white checkerboard dance floor or a white and faux-wood checkered dance floor for $1,000. You may also use the rug in the middle of the tent as a dance floor at no additional charge, or rent a dance floor from an approved vendor.
Do we need to display our day-of timeline?
No. Our team tells everyone where and when to go for each part of the evening. We will provide hard copies for your wedding party and immediate family at the rehearsal.
When can we rehearse?
Your rental includes a 1-hour rehearsal at a time the venue isn’t hosting another event. Sunday couples typically rehearse Saturday at 11 a.m. You may also book the venue for your rehearsal dinner night (see upgrades below).
Decorations, Guests & Day-of Rules
When does the ceremony start, and when does the night end?
Ceremony times vary by season because we build each timeline around sunset; most ceremonies start between 4 and 5:30 p.m. Arrival is at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday events end at 10 p.m., with everyone off the property by 11 p.m. Sunday events end at 9 p.m., with everyone off the property by 10 p.m.
What decorating rules should we know?
- Nothing may be nailed, taped or affixed to walls, fixtures or floors; use a door hanger or suction hook for entrance décor
- Candles must be unscented, on sturdy noncombustible bases, with flames protected and at least 2 inches from the edge of the container
- Glitter, party poppers and silly string are prohibited
- Real or faux flower petals and bird seed may be dispensed outside; you are responsible for cleanup
- All of your items must be removed by the end of your reservation
Can we do a sparkler exit?
Yes, sparklers are available as an add-on for $75.
Can we bring our own sparklers?
You may bring your own sparklers, but our staff must manage their use for the safety of our guests and property, so the $75 fee would still apply.
Where can guests park?
There is plenty of parking in the side parking lot, the gravel parking areas, the church parking lot and on the street.
Is smoking allowed?
Smoking and vaping are permitted only in the shade garden and the parking lot, and never within 20 feet of a doorway. Smoking in the Finch House or Brookshire House will forfeit your security deposit.
What are the rules for children?
Children must be supervised by a sober adult at all times and kept within 5 feet of that adult. Children under 12 who are not in the wedding party may not go upstairs.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
No outside alcohol is allowed at the cocktail hour, dinner reception or rehearsal dinner. All beer, wine and liquor is purchased and served by The Finch House through our licensed bartenders, in accordance with North Carolina ABC regulations. Your bar package covers the alcohol, and any unopened product is refunded after your event. We may close the bar early for unruly behavior or intoxication. Weddings can also be dry.
What about noise and weather?
The Finch House is a downtown outdoor venue. We can’t control train noise, first responders or activity from surrounding properties, and our team proactively adds tents and closes tent sides when weather requires it.
Do you require approved vendors?
All vendors must be approved by The Finch House. Caterers must carry proper licenses and insurance, and vendors are responsible for emptying trash and cleaning up after themselves. Our preferred vendor list covers hair and makeup and other services.
Where can we find your preferred vendor list?
You can find our preferred vendor list here.
Can you use photos from our wedding?
Our contract allows the venue to use photos and video from your photographer and videographer, and to take its own photos of the event, for our website and promotion.

What does the planning process look like?
After you book, we send your wedding “homework,” then a timeline and notes document, a ceremony script, a photography shot list, a music planning worksheet and a 30-day checklist. We hold planning calls as your date approaches and a final walk-through about 30 days out.
Can we see the venue before booking?
Yes. We offer personal tours Tuesday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Please note that if a wedding is occurring during a weekend tour we may not be able to show you the entire property.
